Sunday 15th March 2009. Congratulations go to both Mark Danon and Adam Molloson who are the first Felixstowe Judo Club senior members to win medals in open competition. For Mark this was his first experience of a judo competition and showing no nerves entered both the Novice to 4th Kyu U100kg section and the Masters open grade section where he had to compete against black belts! He won two silver medals.

Adam Molloson 1st Kyu has returned recently to the sport and hasn’t competed for several years and he put in a battling performance against very experienced competitors. He also entered two sections and came away with a Silver & Bronze for his efforts but more importantly achieved 20 points towards his 1st Dan.

This is the second judo competition to be hosted at the school and this time the competition was held in the main hall providing necessary spectator seating for players and parents.

The competition was run by David Martin Enjoy Judo Development Coach, British Judo Association, with the help of volunteer BJA junior officials Jarreth Hawkins, Aaron Hawkins, Ben Caldwell, Charlie Pearse and Thomas Martin. Felixstowe Judo Club assistant coaches/parents Ian Caldwell and Lee Unwin helped oversee the junior scorers and timekeepers and ran the pool sheets.

In all 40 competitors took part with 10 schools represented, the children were matched as close as possible by weight/age and experience in pools of 3-5 competitors. For many children who have enjoyed participating in their local school club this was their first chance to experience competitive judo in a positive, friendly atmosphere.
