Felixstowe judo club was formed during September 2008 by David Martin, with the aim to extend access and participation in Judo to the local Felixstowe community, currently there is no other club within a 15 miles radius.
Judo first started at the school as a block of taster sessions for Year11 pupils in their PE lessons. Four years later, since the first Monday afterschool clubs were formed, some of the original members of the first taster sessions are still practicing their Judo weekly both afterschool and at the Felixstowe Judo club training sessions.
Judo is an ideal sport for all age groups, males and females of varying sizes and abilities. Confidence and self-esteem are improved as a player progresses through the ranks and the very nature of the grading system ensures that the next goal is always realistic and achievable with effort. Judo training is an ideal form of physical exercise and serves as a cardiovascular workout, which improves stamina, general health and overall fitness.
The club was awarded an Awards For All lottery grant of £7,086 in October 2008. this was used to purchase, an 12m x 11m training area, with EJU standard competition (blue & yellow) mats.The club has achieved competition success at open regional events in additional to local school competitions and the annual Suffolk Youth Games. Felixstowe Judo Club is the training venue for the Suffolk Coastal Suffolk Youth Games team. |

All judo classes held at the school are currently coached by David Martin, BJA 6th Dan, Enjoy Judo Development coach. Local schools have been awarded the coveted Black Belt school2Dojo club links with Felixstowe Judo club. This is the highest recognition by British Judo of good practice and demonstrates a strong relationship between a school and its local community club. |

There is also a Wednesday lunchtime club held at Causton Junior school. 12.15—1pm which has a school 2dojo link. |

Felixstowe Judo Club junior and senior membership continues to grow. Visitors club players should expect to find suitable training partners as all grades & sizes are represented every Monday from novice to 6th Dan. This is a training centre for the Suffolk Coastal team and some Eastern Area squad players train weekly at the venue. See Class times below.
